Wild Gift Class of 2019
Wild Gift: What is BoxPower’s mission, and what kind of impact are you hoping to have?
Anderson:
BoxPower’s mission is to provide clean, reliable, and affordable energy to rural and underserved communities by streamlining the deployment of microgrid solutions.
WG: What are you currently working on or excited about? Any recent accomplishments we can celebrate with you?
Anderson:
We're currently deepening our partnerships with utilities across the U.S. and scaling our software and hardware platforms that drive money and time out of the microgrid procurement process.
We're particularly excited about recently securing a significant $3 million California Energy Commission RAMP grant, which validates our approach and supports manufacturing readiness.
WG: How did the Wild Gift Fellowship help in your journey as an entrepreneur?
Anderson:
The Wild Gift Fellowship was instrumental in my journey as an entrepreneur by providing crucial mentorship, a supportive network, and practical guidance at a pivotal moment in BoxPower's growth. It helped me better communicate our mission to investors and reinforced my resilience and confidence in navigating the challenges of scaling a rapidly growing company.
WG: What specific problem or challenge did the Fellowship help you gain clarity on?
Anderson:
The Fellowship emphasized the importance of peer connection and the value of creating a network of people working to tackle difficult challenges and the stresses of startups.
WG: What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned since your Fellowship?
Anderson:
Perseverance. It always takes longer and is more challenging than expected. Being patient and persistent is a key attribute I've learned, especially as we continue to grow 8+ years in.
WG: What’s next for you and your organization in the coming year?
Anderson:
BoxPower is focused on significant geographic and market expansion—particularly scaling deployment in the commercial and industrial sectors. We’re also further developing our software capabilities through our EASI platform to accelerate adoption and simplify deployment of microgrids.
WG: Are there any opportunities or needs you’re actively recruiting for?
Anderson:
Yes, check out our careers page. We have numerous open positions and are always looking for great talent.
WG: Can you share any metrics or milestones you’ve hit?
Anderson:
So far, BoxPower has offset 40 million pounds of CO₂ and brought power to 4,400 people.
WG: How can the Wild Gift community follow and support your work?
Anderson:
