February 25, 2010 Since its founding in 2002, Wild Gift has quietly developed its unique 'mother' program and achieved outstanding results with a volunteer board, staff and a small group of dedicated funders. All of this has been done on an annual budget of $90,000, which provides, every year, five leaders with $15,000 grants to launch their better world entrepreneurship initiatives. Having granted 29 new leaders, the Wild Gift Board has voted to take a break for a year to find equally dedicated financial partners that will ensure a $250K annual budget for the next five years, thereby allowing us to hire a professional Executive Director, continue to grant five new leader projects every year, AND further develop the synergy of an active network of alumni – our next mission objective. Applications are not being accepted at this time. Individuals interested in applying in the future may submit our pre-application questionnaire. Meanwhile, we look forward to continuing to serve the leaders in our current Class of 2010.
February 18, 2010 David Sone (WG '10) has been named the first winner of Wild Gift's Nelson Grant, which was created to honor Gayle Nelson's memory and her belief that each day in the wilderness is a profound gift. Her belief was, when possible, give more. David's energetic determination is so aligned.
