The mission of Viraj’s Wild Gift Project, Shesyon Solar Earthworks (SSE), is to inspire development in Ladakh, India that is culturally and environmentally sensitive and sustainable. Committed to implementing traditional architecture, indigenous knowledge and offering culturally appropriate solutions to development issues, SSE has built a 10,000 square foot solar building that employed 25 skilled and unskilled Ladakhi’s and implemented an 18 month Solar Builder Course that targets school dropouts, half of them women. SSE has built its own headquarters, a model solar building. Other completed projects include a guesthouse, primary school and medical clinic. Viraj maintained communication with SSE while a project manager at New York Sun Works, an environmental engineering firm, and does so today as the co-founder and CEO of Gotham Greens, a New York company working to advance sustainable urban agriculture. Gotham Greens is creating New York City’s first commercial scale, sustainable rooftop farm. Viraj serves on the Wild Gift Board.
