The mission of Jessica’s Wild Gift project, Earth Justice Network, is to support grassroots campaigns and provide training to citizens who will advocate for sustainability, democracy and justice in San Francisco’s east bay region. Jessica worked as an organizer and campaigner for the Oakland Food Policy Council, which advocates for policies and programs to eliminate the root-causes of hunger, increase the number of food-sector living wage jobs in Oakland, and help create a sustainable food system whereby 30% of Oakland’s food is grown locally and food businesses significantly curb their waste. The Food Council bill for which Jessica campaigned was passed by the Oakland City Council in 2006 and has since been developed by Food Policy hosts Food First and Pueblo. Jessica was also a steering committee member of the East Bay Clean Energy Campaign, which advocates for the cities of Oakland, Emeryville and Berkeley to establish an energy cooperative that buys and sells energy to citizens, thereby increasing the amount of renewable energy in the grid to a minimum of 50% by 2017. Jessica provides organizing, facilitation, media strategy training and consulting support to activist groups across North America so they can become more effective advocates for social and environmental change. Jessica has worked with many groups including the Otesha Project, Greenpeace USA, Students for a Free Tibet, Rainforest Action Network and the Ruckus Society. She is currently working as an organizer for the Climate Action Network Canada.
